The winds have risen and the sky shows what lies ahead: a storm gathering along the south of Greenland. It looks as though the next day or two will be rough, and possibly longer, with two more storm systems marked on the charts. For now, we simply take it one day at a time.
Yesterday brought a gift before the seas turned: three pods of pilot whales, twenty-three in total. One came close before diving deep, while the others swam alongside us long enough to watch their movements clearly. It was a sight that lingers.
On board, preparations are underway. The crew has replaced all the tow lines on the bow and is finishing the stern, an exhausting job but vital with weather like this approaching. Smaller repairs fill the day as well, each bit of maintenance a step toward being ready. Ballast exchange may follow, though that remains to be confirmed. For now, the ship moves steadily on, braced for what is coming.
