Travelogue: so stormy

North Atlantic – September 17
Date and time: 17.09.25, 00:30 (UTC -1)
Location: LAT 58.37°, LON 44.19°
SOG (speed over ground): 2.8 knots
Wind: 39 knots

The storm found us in the night. By half past midnight the wind was up to 39 knots, the seas driving in from about 45 degrees off the port bow. The ship rolled and pounded, each wave hitting with force, the motion sharper and more unsettled than what we faced off southern Greenland on the northbound passage. Here the angle of wind and wave makes it harsher still, more difficult to find balance, more difficult to move.

Speed has dropped to barely three knots, and the forecast says this weather may last until tomorrow. For now, it is simply a matter of riding it out, steady as we can.
