The sea is calm and bright today, the sky wide open with sunlight. Long rolling swells still shift the deck underfoot, so my morning walk required care, keeping close to the vessel’s centre. Even so, it felt wonderful to be outside, steadying myself and watching the horizon glide past.
Work carries on all around me. Preparations for the upcoming port state inspection have spilled into Sunday, unusual but unavoidable given how much needs to be done before arrival.
For myself, I find these final days of the voyage carry their own sweetness, like the last course of a meal you wish would go on longer. I spend hours sitting in my little camping chair, simply watching the sea. Most days bring sightings of whales, dolphins, or seabirds, but even when they don’t, the quietness feels complete. After the storms of earlier weeks, this calm is a gift. Part of me wishes I could just keep going, all the way to Australia.
