Travelogue: crossing over to Canada

The winds rose again this morning, and though they have eased a little, the skies remain grey and low with cloud. Icebergs keep appearing, some of them spectacular, but spotting them has become almost routine now. At the height of summer, there is less ice than there would have been a month ago, when we first expected to leave Rotterdam. Still, the sight of each one carries its own quiet thrill.
We are making our way north, crossing toward 74 degrees, where we will request permission to enter Pond Inlet and then continue farther on to Milne Inlet. Morale on board is good. The crew is working hard, and there is also time for stories, for recording podcasts, and for the kind of conversations that only long days at sea allow. There is a growing sense of trust, and with it a warmth that makes the ship feel smaller, more like a shared home.
All is well, and tomorrow will bring its own updates.
